Distance. Episode I

To combat the coronavirus pandemic, precautions have been taken around the world to protect the public: Museums were closed, fairs were cancelled, the Berlin Gallery Weekend and Paper Positions were postponed. Three of our own planned exhibitions, including works by Ernst Wilhelm Nay, Martha Jungwirth and Jakob Mattner, have been put on hold until further notice. It is time to take a step back.

But this does not mean withdrawing from the experience of art. Distance gives room for thinking, and we have used this time to reflect on our inventory. Artists, art historians and friends of the gallery have contributed. The catalogue “Distance” is the result of this process. We present paintings from the late 19th century to the early 1990s.
