Grete Schick
* 2ST JANUARY 1906 IN FRANKFURT AM MAIN (GER)
† 3RD OCTOBER 1981 IN MÜLHEIM (GER)
Grete Schick was a German Skulptur.
She studied at the art school (later the Folkwangschule) in Essen. In 1927 she travelled with a scholarship for several months to Italy and Paris, where she married and stayed until 1935. After a divorce she returned to her parents in Mülheim and worked as a book seller and secretary. Under the National Socialists she remained inactive and led a reclusive life. However, she sculpted and drew in her free time until her death in 1981.
He work, which was only rediscovered several years after her death, shows social motifs and leaves the material and the working process visible. Her work has great simplicity and suggests expressionistic traits.
